To
celebrate International Women's Day, I asked some women what the best
thing was about being a woman and here are their interesting responses.
Enjoy!!!
The soothing healing gift of tears where a woman can unashamedly cry anywhere or anytime is one of the blessings of being a woman. Imagine being hurt, suffering loss or being in pain and not being able to cry because 'you have to be a man.' The gift of tears is one God has given the woman to endure the overwhelming pressures of life as well as to deeply experience the joy of his many blessings. I'm blessed to be able to express this gift freely. I'm blessed to be a woman :)
Secondly, the sheer contradiction of the very essence of womanhood - weakness and strength, fragility and toughness, inability and immense ability - she is gentle enough to rock a baby in her bosom and yet powerful enough to command an army or run an empire. Yes we are a paradox and i love it!
The best thing about being a woman is the variety. As women, we experience so many changes in our bodies and minds over the course of our lives. We get to experience life in a whole different way than men do, and I love that.
Being able to get pregnant & childbirth, also, the changes i get to experience from being a girl to a woman; the curves, etc, the transition is amazing.
I get to do something a man may never understand and sure will never experience, carry our baby in my womb and push him into the world and also be the first to feed him.
A Story of Trial and Triumph (2) Do you know how it feels when you lose a baby? You have this bad insatiable urge to want to get pregnant as soon as possible, like the next day. So we started to try again. We couldn’t even bear to wait till my stitches were sealed before we started to try. Of course that was very uncomfortable to do, so we managed to wait till I could handle sex again. And we were at it like rabbits in the house. Every day, not even a single day went by without us doing it. And each day I walked into the Nursery and I saw the Barbie wallpapers and Winnie the Pooh stickers, a little piece of my heart broke off. There were baby things everywhere in the nursery. Ola tried to hide everything before I could see them but he couldn’t get them all. All I had to do was open the wardrobe in the nursery and there they were. Diapers, Wipes, baby baths, swing, highchair, box of clothes and I would just break down and cry all over again. We were going to name her Oluwatobi

We make everyday choices and hardly give it a thought. What clothes to wear, food to eat, taxi to take – mundane task that don’t require much brain power. We don’t think about it because they have become a natural part of our lives. We have done these simple tasks for such a long time that we can carry on doing them without giving much ado. It’s now become a part of our lives. And that is fine. With each passing day and as you master the chores of your life, there is a tendency to lose the thrill, to dissolve the anticipation of what another day brings and just carry on living. When 80% of what you do in your day life has become a routine how do you keep the thrill of living, the joy of change and the anticipation of the unknown tomorrow? ‘Be thankful’ One of the ways I have found really helpful is keeping a grateful heart. To look at everything in your life, every day, and be grateful for the many gifts you have. I have found that being thankful helps you put lots
