Irony
"God blesses those who are humble, for they will inherit the whole earth". Matthew 5:5 (NLT)
When I read this verse, its seems hard to comprehend: how on
earth will the meek inherit the earth when everyone seems to have to fight for
something to have it?
All our lives we have been told, if you want something you
have to raise your hand, shout, somehow get attention else it will pass you by.
And while that is true on some occasions, I have also seen that good things
does come to people who are also humble, patient and quiet. Ironic right? I
believe it’s all about reading the situation and responding appropriately.
There is no rule of thumb, other than being really
emotionally smart and making the most of what comes your way. One thing I have
seen though is that if you are very good at what you do, you are most likely to
be nominated for that promotion than if you say you are good at what you do and
no one else can validate that. And if you talk your way to the top, you are
most likely going to find yourself sliding right back down if you can’t do what
you say you can.
So here’s my take on this bible verse, if you are fighting
your way through life, that’s fine just make sure you have the skills and expertise
to support your brawls and to keep you as the champion when you win. And if you
decide to humbly work your way up in life, make sure you can speak up and raise
your hand when an opportunity presents itself or it will pass you by.
There is nothing more disheartening than to see an incompetent
person ascend to the throne and an extremely capable person passed on for a
great opportunity.
Read the moment and act appropriately. While God does bless
the humble, all of life is time and chance so seize the moment.
