Unlock God’s Awesome Favour When You Walk in Obedience

God's word for this year is righteousness.
He calls his people to step out of wrongdoing, serve him wholly, and wholeheartedly obey his words. The promise of God this year is that he will step into the affairs of men with vengeance and favour. He will show his judgement to those who do not obey his words and his favour to those who walk in righteousness.

So, what does walking in righteousness mean? Deuteronomy 28 verses 1 and 2 explains this with two simple phrases: we should all commit to memory.

  • Diligently Obey the voice of God and;
  • Carefully Observe all of his commands.

If you do this, you will unlock God's favour in 2023. However, if you don't, you will unleash his vengeance on your life this year. This year more than any other year, God's calling us to obey his words and live according to his standards. Not the standards of society or what men have accepted as the norm.

We are to be a light in this world and shine the truth on every dark path. Psalm 37 draws a clear picture of the characteristics of a righteous man. These are qualities we should aim to build and make second nature this year:

  • A Just person
  • Upright in conduct
  • Shows mercy
  • Gives
  • Speaks wisdom
  • Keeps God's law in their heart
  • Trusts God

It's not in our human nature to live a life of righteousness. On the contrary, our natural self is wired to sin. But with the help of God's Holy Spirit, we can live a life that pleases and honour God. So as you start the year, rededicate yourself to God and commit your life to do the right thing. Ask for his holy Spirit to help you live a life honouring God.

Ask his holy Spirit for the power to obey the voice of God and observe all his commands. And as you do, you will enter into a new relationship with God that draws and keeps you in his presence. Then, when you stay in his presence, you experience his favour – his peace, blessings and security.

2023 is not the year to rebel against God; this is the year to draw near your maker and develop a deeper relationship with God. God will show his favour to the righteous and his vengeance to the ungodly. So draw near to God, obey his voice and observe his commands - God blesses the righteous with his favour. Unlock God’s awesome favour on your life by walking in obedience to him.

Here are a few bible verses to read and meditate on this year.

Isaiah 61:1-3 (NIV) - "The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion— to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor."

Deuteronomy 28: 1-2 (NIV) - "If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully follow all his commands I give you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations on earth. All these blessings will come on you and accompany you if you obey the Lord your God"

Psalm 37: 1, 2 , 18, 19, 37, 38 (NIV) - "Do not fret because of those who are evil or be envious of those who do wrong; for like the grass they will soon wither, like green plants they will soon die away. The blameless spend their days under the Lord's care, and their inheritance will endure forever. In times of disaster they will not wither; in days of famine they will enjoy plenty. Consider the blameless, observe the upright; a future awaits those who seek peace. But all sinners will be destroyed; there will be no future for the wicked."

Psalm 92:12 (NIV) - "The righteous will flourish like a palm tree, they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon"

Proverbs 14:34 (NIV) - "Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin condemns any people."

Proverbs 15: 3 (NIV) - "The eyes of the Lord are everywhere, keeping watch on the wicked and the good."

Proverbs 3:7,8, 33 (NIV) - "Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones. The Lord's curse is on the house of the wicked, but he blesses the home of the righteous."

Malachi 3: 16-18 (NIV) - "Then those who feared the Lord talked with each other, and the Lord listened and heard. A scroll of remembrance was written in his presence concerning those who feared the Lord and honored his name. "On the day when I act," says the Lord Almighty, "they will be my treasured possession. I will spare them, just as a father has compassion and spares his son who serves him. And you will again see the distinction between the righteous and the wicked, between those who serve God and those who do not."

Galatians 5:22-23 (NIV) - "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law."

Daniel 12: 3 (NIV) - "Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever."
