Keep Your Eyes on Jesus: Overcoming Distractions That Steal Your Focus
Distractions Are Sneaky Thieves
Distractions are like little snack thieves at lunchtime — subtle, sneaky, and quick. They grab your attention with something small and harmless, and while you’re looking away, your “snack” is gone.
But these thieves aren’t after food — they’re after your time and focus. They pull your eyes off what truly matters and drag you toward things that, in the long run, don’t count for much.
If we’re not careful, distractions slowly eat away at the things that deserve our focus — our faith, purpose, and peace.
The Real Danger: Losing Focus, Not Faith
One of the greatest dangers for a Christian isn’t losing faith; it’s losing focus.
The enemy knows this. His goal isn’t always to destroy your belief in God, but to divert your attention from Him. If he can get you to stop looking at Jesus, he can make you lose balance — just like Peter did when he walked on water.
As long as Peter’s eyes were fixed on Jesus, he stood firm. But the moment he looked at the storm around him, he began to sink. He lost focus first — then faith followed.
Still, Peter had just enough faith left to cry out, “Lord, save me!”
What’s Distracting You Today?
Bills? Family pressures? Unmet dreams? Work struggles?
What’s pulling your attention away from the Father’s love for you?
Here’s a gentle reminder: look back to Him. Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus.
You wouldn’t expect a surgeon to lose focus during a delicate operation, or a soldier in enemy territory to get distracted by a distant market. And no athlete running toward the finish line stops to wave at the crowd.
Each one knows this truth: focus determines victory.
For us as believers, that victory is found in Jesus.
Stay Focused, No Matter the Storm
When the wind blows — keep looking to God.
When the rain falls — keep looking to God.
When fear or frustration come — keep looking to God.
All those little irritations and anxieties throughout your day are just “snack thieves,” trying to pull your focus from the One who writes your story and directs your path.
Remember — God is the Director, not you. He’s got this under control.
Even Jesus faced distractions. When He fasted in the desert, the devil tried three times to divert Him from His mission. Later, His disciples urged Him to restore an earthly kingdom — but He stayed focused on His divine purpose.
Stay True to Your Mission
So, what’s your mission?
- Raising your children?
- Being a light in your community?
- Transforming your workplace?
- Writing so others can discover God’s love?
Whatever God has called you to do — stay focused. Don’t let the winds of life pull your eyes away. That’s how sinking starts.
Keep your eyes on the One who can keep you from falling and present you faultless before the Father.
Like a good athlete, eyes on the goal — don’t break your focus.
Keep your eyes on Jesus.
