Choosing the right foundation to secure your life’s decisions

Have you ever heard a great orator deliver a speech? The eloquence, confidence, and ease of communication are nothing short of captivating. What about listening to an exceptional guitarist play? All you see is their hands moving and you wonder—how on earth is he doing that? But if you journey back with them in time, you will realize that all they learned were the basics, and they mastered their skill by building on these basics.

The eloquent speaker learned the alphabet, then how to make sentences and eventually went on to hone her speaking skills.
The guitarist learned the notes and finger placements and he went on to create great music. Both their skills grew on an enduring foundation

Basics, foundation, bedrock, cornerstone—call it what you will, it plays an enormous part in turning a novice into a Master, which is why we all work hard to ensure our kids get the foundational training they require from school. Education aside, what’s the basic principle on which your life is built?
What is the foundation on which you are basing the growth of your wealth and future?

Each day, you meet people who are so certain about their own strength that it forms the basis on which all their decision-making is conducted. They think they can build an empire on their own and succeed just by the sweat of their brow. And some others build their fame on beauty, finding it so easy to sway a hip and flick their hair to get things done.

Unfortunately, human strength can take you only so far and after a while, you’ll need stronger hands. In the same way, when age turns on you and your youth begins to wane, you need another foundation. At some point, foundations built on fame, wealth, strength, wisdom, relationships, fail.

So allow me to introduce you to the Foundation that can take on whatever load you put on it and stand the test of time.

Isaiah 28: 16 — So this is what the Sovereign Lord says: “See, I lay a stone in Zion, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone for a sure foundation; the one who relies on it will never be stricken with panic”.

Other Bible verses and Bible scholars have explained that the cornerstone referred to here is Jesus. When you build your life on a foundation based on faith in God through his son Jesus, you are able to stand the test of time.

Isaiah 40 verses 30 and 31 tells us: “Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: but they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary, and they shall walk, and not faint.”

There will be times in our lives when other foundations like strength and youth fail, and in these tough times, only faith in God will carry you through.

Here is something to think about as you go about your day today: If all I am depending on and building my life on is something that could fail, then just how secure is this future I am trying to build?

You can turn that around by making faith in God the cornerstone of your life, the epicenter from which all your life’s decisions stem.
