A life that honors God

Image
As a young girl, I decided I wanted to live a life that honored God. I discovered, thankfully, that my relationship with my creator mattered more to me than anything else. When I looked back on the times I was happiest, they were times I felt my life and my relationship with God was in sync. This made me wonder, how do I keep this relationship in sync for the rest of my life? My answer, live a life that honors God.    No one goes to a person who dishonors them, not even God. So how do I honor God with my life? That was my next question and my answer, pay attention to what you say. Living a life that honors God simply starts with the tongue. Of all the other parts of the body, this is the one that reflects the soul. It’s the mirror that shows who you truly are inside.    Read through James 1: 26; “If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person’s religion is worthless.” Your religion, which is your relationsh...

Socially Virtually Ethically Correct

As someone who works in technology, I have seen how technological advancement has helped reshaped our society. We have modern medicine today that has saved the lives of a lot of people. Infant mortality rates have significantly declined due to better hospital facilities available to pregnant women. We have aids to enhance our lifestyle and have given opportunities to people who may otherwise have been left in the dark. An example is the use of subtitles in movies, that help people with sight disabilities follow a movie by reading along. We can speak to our families even if they are thousands of miles away with the aid of the mobile phone. We can see people from miles away with the aid of video calls. We can give our support to a worthy cause even if we have never set foot on the location before with the help of digital currencies and transfer mechanisms. The world we live in today is easier in many ways, enhanced by technology and way smaller than what genera...

Authentic Living

Truth – a simple concept, yet profound. It presents the daunting task of bringing it all to light, just as it is – bare, unshaded, unblemished, without any cover, an expression of plain reality. As children, we heard it over and over again, the concept repeated to us from the lips of many adults. At school, on the playground, at a friend’s party, everywhere we went – adults told us always to tell the truth, a concept we seemed to struggle with as children. It felt like an ideal worth reaching for, but in practice it slipped through the small fingers of innocent kids. Truth becomes a distance concept when the reality of being reprimanded stares a little boy in the face. Truth becomes a trick when a little girl doesn’t want to share her toy. In spite of what we wanted, adults held us to the high moral standard of always telling the truth. If every child heard these golden words, where on the path of growing into adults did they lose them? Some older people have a slipp...

Tell is as IT is

Nothing beats the truth. Often times you find yourself in a pickle. Either way you chose you’d get into the trouble. Your present dilemma is a result of something you did and you wanted to cover up. You hid the truth only to realize that the more you tried to cover up the more you ended up getting into trouble. Like the bible says you found yourself ‘ensnared by the words of your mouth’. So what happens now? Should you continue to cook up lies to cover up one lie after another? May work for a while but ultimately it will come crumbling down like a pack of cards. History has shown time and time again people, who have built their successes on lies or told a lie in a public office, eventually have it blown up in their faces.

The Thin Line

It’s so easy to cross the line between good and bad, right and wrong, truth and deception, because sometimes that line is so thin. We find ourselves in scenarios where we think, “It wouldn’t really hurt to tell a lie; after all, it’s just a little distortion of the truth.” Most times you see people get away with these “little” deceptions, so you feel, “Well it’s accepted, so no biggie.” That’s where you are wrong. God is so jealous of his own that he never for one moment wants you to cross that line no matter how thin it is. That’s why it seems that the first time a good guy decides to do the wrong thing, he gets caught. Hilarious, isn’t it? But more than the fear of getting caught, I believe the motivation for doing the right thing is the chance of getting blessed. One of my favorite verses is Psalm 1 (NIV); it’s a reassurance that you can never get it wrong by doing the right thing. Actually, my entire life is a testimony to that.
