A New Song

Image
There is a saying you may have heard; it says, "music refreshes the soul." The Soul – the very essence of our being. It is the part of our existence that lies between the world we live in and the world our spirit seeks to dwell. It is the part of us that lives on long after we are gone from this world. It is the part that seeks out its creator, the one our creator seeks. The Soul is the core of our being; it's the eternal being.   When disaster strikes, you may feel the pain in your body and could very well recover from it. However, if you let that deep dark feeling of loneliness and depression sink into your Soul, it will destroy your entire being. Look around you, see how worries, anxieties, and fear saps out life from souls around you. The hardship of our world serves to create a troubled soul. A troubled soul is a fertile ground for seeds of greed, wickedness, and evil to grow, which eventually grows into lost souls.   Sin...

Mindfulness: Living in the moment

Image
Guest Writer: By Rev. Folashade Evelyn Ezekiel Right now we are living in unprecedented and unpredictable times and everything seems very anomalous and surreal. For the last few months, the world has been on lockdown because of a killer virus which has led to the reality of social distancing, homeschooling, face coverings and a completely different way of life from what we have been used to. In this very shaky, flaky, and uncertain world, we live in. Life is lived in moments and the quality of our life is determined by the sum total of our moments. These moments are like tiny building blocks that make up a grand design called life. Therefore every moment should be carefully crafted like a piece of wood in the hands of a master craftsman and savored like the first drop of water on the lips of a thirsty man. Moments should be experienced and enjoyed with mindfulness and presence of mind. Moments can be in the form of a hug from your toddler, a smile from the one you love, ...

Rising like a Phoenix from the ashes of despair

Image
I was reading about the phoenix, an ancient Greek mythological bird with the ability to be reborn out of the ashes of destruction. What I found fascinating was the simple notion that when all seemed destroyed, something good came out of it. It’s encouraging to know that where one thing ends, another new life begins. When we look around our world today, we see lots of pain and despair. It could be the pain from dealing with illness due to the virus, despair from the uncertainty of tomorrow or the gloom of being stuck at home. In these moments, it’s only natural to feel all these emotions in the face of dire or fatal circumstances. But it’s not the emotions we feel that matters, it’s how we handle them. While there are many ways to deal with our emotions, I will like to leave you with a few: Live You can worry as much as you want but the reality is that all you have is today and now. You might as well just live in the moment and make the best of each second you have. I...

Strengthening Your Faith in Times of Crisis

Image
It’s easy to say “I trust God” and use all the words of faith when everything is going well and exactly as you planned. When you are experiencing favor and great opportunities, you can easily say “Yes, God is good.” But how do you keep that positivity and faith in God when life takes an unexpected turn, like it has for the entire world in the last few months? When you watch a loved one fall ill and see the light snuffed out of their eyes, how can you trust God? How do you continue to believe in his promises? It’s really hard to do this during life’s crises. We all find ourselves in the face of battles, like the current COVID-19 pandemic. At times like this, we ask questions like, Why did God allow this? Is this the end of the world? Are we being punished for our sins? Or the most common one, will I also get sick with the virus? Whatever questions are occupying your mind right now, I can only ask you to take a minute and breathe. Remember the words of Jesus in Matthe...
