Your meritorious service in Bosnia, Yugoslavia, Pakistan, NIBATT 21 ECOMOG Liberia, Joint Task Force in the Niger Delta amongst so many others. As we celebrate our fallen heroes today, I celebrate you my standing father who gave his life in service to ensure peace within and outside our boarders. I am very proud to be a military brat and the daughter of a General. God bless our service men and women. God bless you Daddy. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

I have heard this song, whose composer I do not know but was made popular by King Sunny Ade, so many times and barely had the meaning sink into my mind. Before Ensure you have adequate water and food stuff in your home. Stock up on fuels and store them safely in open aired spaces for the devices that power the home. Know your voting area. Keep away from political rallies, as by now, you should have an idea of persons or political parties you would want to vote for. As much as possible, keep off the roads. Some nights ago, my sister shared on a ladies’ “what’s app” group a conversation she had overheard earlier in the day. It was a conversation between two filling station attendants; they talked about how they didn’t think Christians were loving enough and how, most times, Christians tend to keep to themselves instead of reaching out to people in need.  Her post got everyone in the group talking about how it’s important that we step out of our religious practices and make real impact in the lives of people around us. More importantly, it got me thinking. Churches make a lot of money from tithes and offerings, but what percentage of that goes into maintaining the parsonage and church building, and what percentage goes back into helping the community?
