A Beautiful Soul: Guarding the Light Within

Image
At the core of who we are—beneath our appearance, our accomplishments, our possessions, and even the roles we play—is our soul. It is the essence of who we are. And when God created us, He created something beautiful. A soul capable of joy, hope, creativity, love, compassion, kindness, and connection. He placed His light within humanity and created us in His image. There is something about the soul of a child that gives us a glimpse of this beauty in its purest form. A baby enters the world innocent and open—ready to love, trust, laugh, explore, and receive love without reservation. But then life happens. We experience disappointment. Rejection. Betrayal. Failure. Loss. Shame. Regret. Words are spoken that we cannot unhear. People we trusted hurt us. Dreams we believed in don't happen the way we imagined. And sometimes, without realizing it, we begin allowing those experiences to change us. It is as though life fires arrows at the soul. One arrow becomes...

Returning to the Father’s Love

Image
During one of our family devotions, my daughter asked us to read the story of the prodigal son together. She read the passage and then, as families often do, we paused to share what stood out to each of us. This is one Bible story that is rich with meaning—disobedience, pride, repentance, forgiveness—but, as we discussed, one truth rose above the rest for me: the depth of the father’s love .   I found myself reflecting not on the son’s rebellion, but on the father’s heart. The son squandered his inheritance, walked away from home, and made choices that led him into hunger and shame. Yet when he returned, broken and uncertain, the father did not interrogate him or rehearse his failures. Instead, he ran toward him with open arms. He wrapped his arms around him. He restored him to his rightful position as a son.   That image stayed with me—the father’s embrace. An embrace that overlooked faults. An embrace that welcomed home a son who had nothing left to offer except repen...

Discover Something New on a Familiar Path

Image
Have you ever walked along a familiar path and suddenly noticed something you hadn’t seen before? Perhaps it was a new road sign, a freshly repainted house, or a newly opened store in your neighbourhood. Your first reaction might be, "Wait, when did that happen?" New things have a way of stopping us in our tracks and making us pay attention.   This is the essence of Isaiah 43:19, which invites us to pause, take notice, and see what God is doing—something new.   "See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?"(Isaiah 43:19)   God is calling us into a new season in our walk with Him, one marked by righteousness and truth. He longs to refresh our souls, which have often been left parched by pursuing goals and desires that can never truly satisfy. He offers rest, healing, and wholeness to our weary hearts. But to experience this newness, we must let go of the old.   Here’s how:         Silence the...

Image
'Tis the season to be jolly, and let's face it, who doesn't love a bit of holiday cheer? It's that magical time when people are in high spirits, going above and beyond to spread some love and joy. Think of it as the grand finale after a year of hard work—a chance to hit the refresh button before diving into the new year. But wait, there's more! It's also the perfect time to cozy up and reflect on a timeless story of promise and fulfillment.   Picture this: the Christmas story, a worldwide sensation that's been rocking the holiday charts for centuries. It's the tale of God's epic love, featuring a baby in a manger and a promise fulfilled. Yes, God went all out, giving up His son to bring salvation into the world. Building God Confidence For An Exciting Faith Filled Life

Image
An anchor, the central part of a person's life, usually holds everything in place. That anchor, the foundation from which everything else emerges, is critical to how balanced and smoothly a person's life rolls along the sand of time. Over the years, people have discovered different anchors and coping mechanisms for living. The one sure one I can recommend is a lifelong relationship with God. Nothing and no one on earth can stand the pressures of living, holding your life in balance, like the maker of time himself. We lose balance when we put our work, family, or money at the center of our lives. If you have been falling out of sorts, it's time to give God his place.   Here are a few tips to help you learn more about staying connected to God and keeping your life in sync:   Return:  that's a call for repentance. God wants all of us. He wants to be first in our hearts and minds. So turn your focus back to God and let him be the center ...

Your labour of love is not in vain.

Image
“He said to me, “You are my servant, Israel, in whom I will display my splendour.” But I said, “I have laboured in vain; I have spent my strength for nothing at all. Yet what is due me is in the Lord’s hand,   And my reward is with my God.” Isaiah 49: 2-4 (NIV)   Let’s talk about a common term, Labour of love. Sounds Familiar in any way? It’s an expression we use to signify sacrifice – something you do without the expectation of getting a reciprocated response—an act of goodwill.   In a world where goodness is often taken advantage of, it’s harder to continue doing good or being good. But as Christians’ we have been called to live a life of love even when it is not reciprocated. And though we know that, we sometimes rationalize and wonder why?   The question of why often arise when you review your actions retrospectively. You think about the sacrifices you’ve made and how you have stayed on the ...

A life that honors God

Image
As a young girl, I decided I wanted to live a life that honored God. I discovered, thankfully, that my relationship with my creator mattered more to me than anything else. When I looked back on the times I was happiest, they were times I felt my life and my relationship with God was in sync. This made me wonder, how do I keep this relationship in sync for the rest of my life? My answer, live a life that honors God.    No one goes to a person who dishonors them, not even God. So how do I honor God with my life? That was my next question and my answer, pay attention to what you say. Living a life that honors God simply starts with the tongue. Of all the other parts of the body, this is the one that reflects the soul. It’s the mirror that shows who you truly are inside.    Read through James 1: 26; “If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person’s religion is worthless.” Your religion, which is your relationsh...
